Marble

Thassos marble

Thassos is a pure white calcite marble quarried on a Greek island. It is chosen for its near-total absence of veining and its bright, reflective surface.

Character and behaviour

The stone is exceptionally white with minimal grey or cream variation, giving walls a clean, even tone. Its crystalline structure reflects light well, which makes small or dark spaces feel larger. The surface is hard for a marble but still calcite-based, so it reacts to acids and requires care.

Best for

  • Feature walls in bathrooms
  • Shower surrounds and niches
  • Backsplashes in low-acid kitchens
  • Light-amplifying small spaces

Avoid for

  • Kitchen counters with frequent acid contact
  • High-traffic floor areas

Care and maintenance

Seal on installation and reseal annually. Wipe acid spills immediately — citrus, vinegar, and wine will etch the surface. Use pH-neutral cleaners only.
