Most flat glass for windows and interiors is soda-lime glass. The main ingredients are silica sand, soda ash, and limestone or dolomite. These are melted at very high temperature, then formed into flat sheets.
The float-glass process (molten glass floated on molten tin) has been the standard for modern flat glass since its industrial adoption in the mid-20th century. It produces the large, consistent sheets used in architecture.
Low-iron and tempered glass
Standard glass contains iron that can give a slight green edge when you look through thick or laminated panels. Low-iron glass reduces that tint — useful for shower walls, display shelves, and minimal balustrades.
Tempered glass is heat-treated to increase strength and break into small pieces rather than sharp shards. Building codes often require tempered or laminated safety glass in specific locations — always confirm locally for your project.
