Marble

Verde Alpi marble

Verde Alpi is a dark green serpentinite marble quarried in the Italian Alps. It is chosen for its deep colour and bold white veining, used as a feature material rather than an all-over surface.

Character and behaviour

The base colour ranges from forest green to near-black, crossed by irregular white calcite veins. The polished surface has a waxy, reflective quality. Because it contains serpentine minerals, it behaves differently from calcite marbles and is less prone to acid etching, though it remains porous and can scratch.
