Wood floors fail early from excess water, grit scratching, and wrong cleaners — not from normal walking. Dry or damp mopping beats soaking wet mops every time.
Entry mats and felt pads on furniture legs prevent most micro-scratches that make floors look tired within a few years.
Cleaners and refinishing
Use products compatible with your finish (oil, wax, urethane). Avoid harsh alkaline or unknown “miracle” sprays unless the finish manufacturer approves them.
Site-finished solid floors can be sanded and refinished when wear shows. Engineered floors can be refinished only if the wear layer is thick enough — check before you buy.
